Santa Energy history.
![]() Santa Energy was founded in 1940 when Stephen J. Santa purchased a truck and kerosene route in Bridgeport, Connecticut from his employer, Socony Vacuum Oil Company (which later became Mobil Oil). Stephen named his new company Santa Fuel. With assistance from his wife Madelyn, the company grew steadily. In the early 1950’s, the couple was joined in the business by their sons. In 1958, Santa Fuel purchased Mobilās Bridgeport office facility, and soon afterward Stephen and Madelyn turned control and ownership of the company over to their eldest sons George (age 30), Donald (age 28), and Norman Santa (age 25). The three new owners were young, innovative and not afraid to take risks. They set an early example by employing new technology in pursuit of better customer service. In 1962, they designed and built the state’s first unattended, card-operated fuel terminal in Monroe, Connecticut, and launched a new wholesale fuel operation, Inland Fuel Terminals, Inc. ![]() Ten years later, the original three-brother partnership expanded to include John Santa, and the company purchased a waterside 2.1 million gallon fuel storage terminal in Bridgeport. In 1983 they entered the industrial fuel market with the purchase of Buckley Energy. In 1995 Inland Fuel Terminals purchased a 25 million gallon cargo terminal in Tiverton, Rhode Island, extending the company’s wholesale marketing territory to Rhode Island, Cape Cod and southeastern Massachusetts. In September, 1999 Santa opened the first unattended gasoline/diesel fueling station in Connecticut designed for commercial fleets. ![]() Today, the company is one of the largest diversified energy companies in the New England Region, employing 170 people and operating a 120-unit fleet. Santa’s diverse customer base includes entities from churches and fuel dealers in downtown Boston to homeowners in Fairfield County, to hospitals in Vermont, to commercial fleets in Connecticut. Santa remains committed to providing high quality fuels, innovative technologies and exceptional service to our customers. |
