Energy Audit

Santa Energy talks with WTNH News Channel 8 about Home Energy Audits:

Save energy. Save money. Save now.

What is a Home Energy Audit?

  • A home energy audit is the first step to assess how much energy your home consumes and to evaluate what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient.
  • During the audit, your Santa Energy Expert can pinpoint where your house is losing energy. An audit will also determine the efficiency of your home’s heating and cooling systems, as well as show you ways to conserve hot water and electricity.
  • An audit will show you problems that, when corrected, may save you significant amounts of money over time. Even small improvements can help you reduce your energy bills.
  • Santa Energy has invested in home energy audit training for its staff, and many of Santa’s team is now fully trained and BPI certified.

What does it mean to be BPI certified?

  • BPI is the Building Performance Institute.
  • Santa’s Energy Experts have gone through rigorous training through BPI, and are evaluated and awarded their certificate only after they pass a written exam as well as a performance evaluation.
  • More than just windows and doors, Santa’s experts know how all the systems in the house are components to your home’s energy efficiency. Everything is connected, and they can see all the areas that can be improved for all of the systems to work much more efficiently.

How much do people save from doing a Home Energy Audit?

  • On average, you can save 25-30% on your energy; a typical household can save $500 per year!
  • Our energy experts will provide forms and information to save up to $3000 in tax credits and rebates on purchases of appliances, insulation and heating and cooling equipment.
  • Heating and cooling equipment financing as low as 0% for those who have had an energy audit.

How long will it take?

  • The audit is very thorough, and the appointment usually takes about 4 hours.

What should I do to prepare for the Home Energy Audit?

  • Do not use the fireplace or wood stove 24 hours prior to audit.
  • If you have copies of your energy bills from the past year, that could be helpful for us to determine the areas that need the most improvement.

What diagnostic tests will be performed?

  • Blower door & blower door guided air sealing
  • Air flow measurement
  • Duct test and duct sealing
  • Installation of compact fluorescent light bulbs [up to 14]
  • Installation of water and hot water-saving measures
  • Identification of older / less efficient appliances
  • Identification of older / less efficient heating and cooling equipment
  • Identification of insufficient insulation

When is the best time to have a Home Energy Audit?

  • If you are remodeling your home and want to see where you can do more to save money.
  • If you just bought a home, we can help identify areas of concern.
  • You don’t have to a homeowner, we can do audits for renters, too.
  • You can benefit from an energy audit any time of the year.
