Two Bridgeport Institutions Share the Same Leadership
Bridgeport, Connecticut – May 21, 2010 – The 2010 Barnum Festival events got underway in May and Tom Santa, CEO of Santa Energy Corporation, was given the ceremonial tools he would need to be the 2010 ringmaster at the annual Whip Whistle and Watch luncheon that officially kicked off this year’s festivities.
The Barnum Festival was conceived as a way to build community spirit as well as to honor Bridgeport’s most famous resident, Phineas Taylor Barnum - world renowned showman, businessman and community leader. The festival is actually a series of events throughout May and June including the culmination of the festival on the weekend of June 25 with fireworks and a parade for the community. This July will be the 200th birthday of Barnum so the festival is even more noteworthy.
The Whip, Whistle and Watch luncheon held at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn included area business and community leaders, festival volunteers as well as 15 of the past 61 festival ringmasters. In addition, the area youth were represented by a royal court selected from local schools. At the luncheon, Santa was presented with the traditional symbolic tools to lead the festival. A whip was given to keep the festival moving. A whistle was presented to bring attention to the festival events. Finally, Santa received the actual watch worn by Barnum to keep festival activities on schedule.
